What is a concept?Concepts are the building blocks of theory and represent the points around which business research is conducted.Each represents a label that we give to elements of the social world that seem to have common features and that strike us as significant.If a concept is to be employed in quantitative research, it will have to be measured. Once they are measured, concepts can be in the form of independent or dependent variables.Why measure? There are three main reasons for the preoccupation with measurement in quantitative research.1. Measurement allows us to delineate fine differences between people in terms of the characteristic in question.2. Measurement gives us a consistent device or yardstick for making such distinctions. 3. Measurement provides the basis for more precise estimates of the degree of relationship between concepts (for example, through correlation analysis)IndicatorsIn order to provide a measure of a concept (often referred to as an operational definition, a term deriving from the idea of operationalization), it is necessary to have an indicator or indicators that will stand for the concept.Quantitative researchers generally have four main preoccupations: they want their research to be measurable, to focus on causation, to be generalisable, and to be replicable. CausalityThere is a very strong concern in most quantitative research with explanation. Quantitative researchers are rarely concerned merely to describe how things are, but are keen to say why things are the way they are. This emphasis is also often taken to be a feature of the ways in which the natural sciences proceed.GeneralizationIn quantitative research the researcher is usually concerned to be able to say that his or her findings can be generalized beyond the confi nes of the particular context in which the research was conducted. Thus, if a study of motivation to work is carried out by a questionnaire with a number of people who answer the questions, we often want to say that the results can apply to individuals other than those who responded in the study.

to take part in the study – which can involve any number of sampling

groups (men and women for example), then the sample should reflect this.7. Step seven, data collection, is what most people 
probably think of as ‘doing research’. In experimental research this is 
likely to involve pre-testing respondents, manipulating the independent 
variable for the experimental group and then post-testing respondents.In
 cross-sectional research using surveys, this will involve interviewing 
the sample members by structured-interview or using a pre-coded 
questionnaire. For observational research this will involve watching the
 setting and behaviour of people and then assigning categories to each

Independent and dependent variables are two fundamental concepts in experimental design. They help researchers understand the relationship between different factors in an experiment.
Independent Variable
The independent variable is the variable that the experimenter manipulates or changes. It is the presumed cause of the effect that is being measured in the experiment. For example, in an experiment to investigate the effect of fertilizer on plant growth, the amount of fertilizer applied would be the independent variable.
Dependent Variable
The dependent variable is the variable that is measured or observed in an experiment. It is the presumed effect of the independent variable. In the plant growth experiment, the height of the plants would be the dependent variable.
Relationship between Independent and Dependent Variables
The independent variable is thought to cause changes in the dependent variable. However, it is important to note that there may be other factors that also affect the dependent variable. These are called extraneous variables. It is important for experimenters to control for extraneous variables as much as possible in order to isolate the effect of the independent variable.
Example
Let's consider an experiment to investigate the effect of sleep deprivation on memory performance. In this experiment, the independent variable would be the amount of sleep (e.g., 0 hours, 4 hours, 8 hours). The dependent variable would be memory performance, which could be measured by a test that assesses recall and recognition.<h2>Types of Experimental Designs</h2>
There are different types of experimental designs of research. They are:

<h3>Pre-experimental Research Design</h3>
The simplest form of experimental research design in Statistics is 
the pre-experimental research design. In this method, a group or various
 groups are kept under observation, after some factors are recognised 
for the cause and effect. This method is usually conducted in order to 
understand whether further investigations are needed for the targeted 
group. That is why this process is considered to be cost-effective. This
 method is classified into three types, namely,
<ul><li>Static Group Comparison</li><li>One-group Pretest-posttest Experimental Research Design</li><li>One-shot Case Study Experimental Research Design</li></ul>
<h3>True-experimental Research Design</h3>
This is the most accurate form of experimental research design as it 
relies on the statistical hypothesis to prove or disprove the 
hypothesis. This is the most commonly used method implemented in 
Physical Science. True experimental research design is the only method 
that establishes the cause and effect relationship within the groups. 
The factors which need to be satisfied in this method are:
<ul><li>Random variable</li><li>Variable can be manipulated by the researcher</li><li>Control Groups (A group of participants are familiar with the 
experimental group, but the experimental rules do not apply to them)</li><li>Experimental Group (Research participants where experimental rules are applied)</li></ul>
<h3>Quasi-Experimental Design</h3>
A quasi-experimental design is similar to a true experimental design, but there is a difference between the two.
In a true experiment design, the participants of the group are 
randomly assigned. So, every unit has an equal chance of getting into 
the experimental group.
In a quasi-experimental design, the participants of the groups are 
not randomly assigned. So, the researcher cannot make a cause or effect 
conclusion. Thus, it is not possible to assign the participants to the 
group.
Apart from these types of experimental design research in statistics,
 there are other two methods used in the research process such as

Ethnographic research involves conducting detailed observations of a 
particular culture or community. It is often used to gain a deep 
understanding of the beliefs, behaviors, and practices of a particular 
group.<h3> Uses of Descriptive Research Designs</h3>Descriptive research designs are used to systematically collect and analyze data to describe characteristics, patterns, and trends in a population or phenomenon. They do not attempt to establish causal relationships or draw inferences about the general population from a small sample.

State Level Eligibility Test Commission, Assam will begin the Assam SET 
2024 registration on November 23, 2023. Candidates who want to apply for
 the State Eligibility Test can do it through the official website of 
Assam SLET at sletneonline.co.in.As per the official notice, the last date to apply is till January 8, 
2024, and the examination fees can be deposited until January 12, 2023.  General/Unreserved/General-EWS candidates who have secured at least 
55% marks (without rounding off) in Master Degree or equivalent 
examination from universities/institutions recognized by UGC are 
eligible for this test. There is no upper age limit for eligibility for

UGC NET December 2023 subject-wise exam schedule

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released the schedule for the UGC National Eligibility Test (NET) in December 2023. The UGC NET is a computer-based test used as a qualifying entrance exam conducted by the NTA on behalf of the UGC. The exam allows qualifying candidates to apply for positions like assistant professor and junior research fellow at Indian universities and colleges. The exam is conducted twice a year, in June and December.  As per the schedule released, the exams will be conducted from December 6-14. The intimation of the city of the exam centre will be declared on the NTA website 10 days before the date of the exam. The University Grants Commission (UGC) is set to revise the syllabus 
for the National Eligibility Test (NET) and will form an expert panel 
for the exercise, its chairman Jagadesh Kumar said on Tuesday.The
 National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts the UGC-National Eligibility 
Test (UGC-NET) for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and as an 
eligibility test for the appointment of assistant professors in the 
subjects of Humanities and Social Sciences, including Indian and some 
foreign languages, as well as in certain science subjects.The UGC-NET is held twice every year, usually in June and December, 
in 83 subjects. The UGC last initiated the process to update the syllabi
 of UGC-NET subjects in 2017. The NTA will be conducting the UGC NET 
2023 for Junior Research Fellowship and assistant professor from 
December 6 to 22."However, after launching the National Education
 Policy (NEP) in 2020, there have been considerable developments in 
higher education to impart multidisciplinary curricula and holistic 
education," Kumar said."Therefore, in its meeting earlier this month, the commission decided 
that an exercise to update the syllabi of the subjects of UGC-NET may be
 undertaken. UGC will form an expert committee and undertake this 
exercise,” he said. Kumar said that candidates will be given sufficient 
time before this new syllabus is introduced in UGC-NET so that the

The Sustainable Action for Transforming Human capital - Education 
(Project SATH-E) initiated by the NITI Aayog in 2017 aims at making a 
wide transformation with a focus on improving quality education. Of the 
16 states that showed interest in the proposal made by NITI Aayog, 3 
were selected for the project - Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and Odisha.The recent report by NITI Aayog titled ‘ Learnings for Large–scale 
Transformation in School Education’ mentions the various structural, 
academic and governance reforms that were taken as a part of the 
project. The report also emphasised the need for school consolidation, 
teacher rationalisation and various professional reforms to enhance 
quality education.“The Project enables a system-wide governance transformation in school 
education. The objective is to ensure that quality is not diluted even 
when we operate on a larger scale,” the report quoted B V R 
Subrahmanyam, CEO, NITI Aayog.The report analyses the implementation of Project SATH-E in Jharkhand, 
Madhya Pradesh and Odisha under 9 intervention categories namely school 
consolidation, remedial learning interventions, assessments, teacher 
recruitment and rationalisation, teacher capacity building, management 
information systems and academic monitoring systems, governance and 
accountability, organisation strengthening and leader schools.The NITI Aayog
 report pointed out 6 issues that need to be addressed in order to 
implement a large-scale transformation in providing quality education. 
That includes: <ol style="text-align: left;"><li>Addressing the issue of sub-scale, inadequately resourced schools head-on with strong political support</li><li>Solving large-scale teacher vacancies issues</li><li>Improving teacher quality and pedagogy</li><li>Enforcing accountability towards learning outcomes</li><li>Focus on Early Childhood Education (ECE) and contextualised Mother tongue-based Multilingual Education (MLE)</li><li>Strengthening the governance structures in education departments</li></ol>According
 to the report, India has 5 times the number of schools than China does 
for the same enrolment of students. It was also mentioned that more than
 50% of primary schools across many states in our country have an 
enrolment of less than 60 students. NITI Aayog puts forward the idea of 
merging schools as a plan to mitigate the cost of such sub-scale 
schools. School merging was executed in the project and the 
report presented favourable results from the action plan. The report 
states that third-party studies in SATH-E have also demonstrated that 
when executed rigorously the benefits of mergers are largely positive 
and can lead to improved learning outcomes.Drawing an example from the project being implemented in Madhya 
Pradesh, the report stated that 35,000 schools were merged into 16,000 
same-campus schools with an aim to improve the quality of education. The
 merged large schools had adequate teachers and resources and 55 percent
 of the schools now had a principal when compared to 20 percent before 
the merger. Similarly, in Jharkhand 4380 schools and in Odisha 2000 
small-scale and same-campus schools were merged. In order to 
address the issue of the unequal distribution and shortage of teachers 
in the education sector, the report suggested the need to take up 
teacher rationalisation and structured policies to be implemented. 
Aligning with the National Education Policy 2020, NITI Aayog also 
emphasised the need to priortise Early Childhood Education (ECE) to 
improve the school readiness of the students.States have been asked to reconsider the decentralisation of powers to 
principals, district and block officers by the policy think tank. This 
step according to the report will give them more financial power and
